Seeing Red, and a Whole Lotta Diecast
Congratulations to Sebastien Loeb on winning his fourth consecutive world rally title at the weekend. Red was certainly the colour of success this season, with Casey Stoner dominating Moto GP and Kimi Raikkonen taking the F1 crown too. I went to see the Cardiff Millennium Stadium special stage, which was quite exciting, and there was a moving tribute to Colin McRae and Richard Burns before the WRC cars went through, with their championship winning Subarus being driven through the arena.
Both Solido (SL150713) and AUTOart (AA80738) will be replicating Loeb’s menacing Citroen C4 in 1:18 scale. I think it’s a safe bet that we’ll see Solido’s version first, although at the moment we have not been given any sort of release date from either manufacturer.
Back on 22nd October I mentioned that Solido would be replicating the #8 Peugeot 908 from this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours (SL118004). This has now been officially confirmed, and is slated for a May 2008 release. I know we’ll get a lot of Jacques Villeneuve fans asking if Solido will also do the #7 car, but at the moment I’m afraid it doesn’t look likely. Solido tend to only replicate one car (as they did with the 2005 Le Mans Aston Martin DBR9), and now, as then, have gone for the one that got the better result.
Staying with Solido, we received a new delivery from them today, with the first three cars in the Alain Prost collection, both in 1:18 and 1:43 scale. These are Alain’s 1985 McLaren MP4/2B (SL151232 and SL151291), 1986 McLaren MP4/2C (SL151233 and SL151292), and 2006 Andros Ice Trophy Toyota Corolla (SL151231 and SL151290). The two McLarens are of course his first two world championship winners, and even come with removable bodywork.
