A Sneak Peek at Kimi’s 200th Win!

Kyosho announced some new 1:18 road cars today, and although this would normally not be the most exciting news, as it would mean the latest variant of some BMW or Audi saloon, these were two replicas of the new Mini Clubman. They will be replicating the standard Clubman in silver (KY8745S), and the Clubman S in red (KY8746R).

Mattel also provided us with a sample image of their 1:18 special commemorating Ferrari’s 200th Formula One victory, via Kimi Raikkonen in the 2007 Chinese Grand Prix (DC2706C).

Would You Say No To THIS Ferrari?

Today Mattel provided us with a sample of the two-tone Ferrari 575 GTZ, in grey with a silver roof (HW2961). We were also provided with images of the same car in black (HW2983). They both look good, although I’m not sure about the green interior inside the black version!

For the bargain hunters among you, as tomorrow only happens once every four years, we are doing a special promotion where you can get 15% off every item that we have in stock, including sale items. You just have to type in the media code of FEB29 at the basket page. It applies to everything we have in stock though, be it diecast, clothing, or anything else. It will run from midnight tonight until midnight tomorrow night.

F1 08 Diecast Yesterday, F1 07 Diecast Today

We received the new Minichamps delivery today, the two highlights being Dani Pedrosa’s 1:12 2006 Honda RC211V (PO61026), and Nick Heidfeld’s 1:18 2007 BMW F1.07 (DC2709).

Pedrosa’s Honda almost completes the 1:12 2006 Moto GP grid, with only one replica left now, although, typically, that one just happens to be that year’s world champion Nicky Hayden (PO61069), which we have loads of pre-orders against!

Heidfeld’s BMW looks really good, a stark reminder as to what a shame it is that Minichamps are only doing 1:18 replicas for two teams from the 2007 F1 season!

A Note From Christopher Paul

Just so that you all know.

One of our forum users out there, ‘ukdiecastkid’, seems to think that GT Models gets its models before us.

This isn’t the case; the guy is full of sh*t.

We’ve often checked out the situation when GT Models says they have items in stock before us.

They almost never do.

They invariably take your money up front, then refund it later when it becomes clear that they can’t send the goods out.

Often they say it’s in stock in the hope that a model is going to arrive soon and the customer will never know it wasn’t there at the time of ordering.

The fact is this; nobody in the UK gets models before us.

Remember, GT Models is the company that takes deposits on pre-orders. They don’t hold the prices for customers when the manufacturers increase them. And when they can, they will charge you £100 for a Minichamps Hamilton McLaren 1:43.

Oh, and just in case you wondered, ‘ukdiecastkid’ is actually somebody from GT Models.

We traced their IP address and it was a GT Models address.

So, they’re not all that bright either! Still, good to know they use our site to keep up with developments.

Somebody asked about GPL’s views on the Mattel Canada special.

Have to say we’re not that impressed especially as we had been told that the premium being charged was for the extra tooling costs.

For numerous reasons we can’t really say much more on this subject; suffice it to say that we are de-listing this particular model.

Just for information, the Minichamps version has outsold the Mattel version many times over and it’s not difficult to see why.

Formula 1 08 Has Started Early

There are two diary entries for you today, one from me, and one from our leader Christopher Paul.

Minichamps announced some 1:43 2008 F1 showcars and test cars. The show cars are the BMWs of Heidfeld (DC28403P) and Kubica (DC28404P), the Renaults of Alonso (DC28405P) and Piquet Jnr (DC28406P), and the Toyotas of Trulli (DC28411P) and Glock (DC28412P).

The test cars are Alonso’s Renault R27 (DC28405T), and the Williams FW29s of Rosberg (DC28407T) and Nakajima (DC28408T).

We also received Minichamps’ release schedule for the next four weeks. Next week we will see the second batch of the 1:12 Lawrence of Arabia Brough Superior (P135500), Robert Kubica’s 1:18 2007 BMW F1.07 (DC2710), and Vitantonio Liuzzi’s 1:43 2006 Toro Rosso STR1 (DC26420).

The week beginning 10th March we are due to get the 1:12 Valentino Rossi riding figure from 2006 (PO60146), and the 1:18 Maserati Birdcage of Stirling Moss and Dan Gurney that won the 1960 Nurburgring 1000km (PG601205).

The week after the first F1 race of the season we are scheduled to receive the 1:12 Rossi Jerez sidesaddle victory figure (PO79146), and the 1:43 Ford Focus that he used to win the Monza Rally in 2006 (P068446), as well as the 1:18 Bentley Continental Flying Spur in white (PG139461).

The last week of the schedule currently has nothing significant on it, just a couple of rather obscure 1:43s, but, as ever, by the time we get to that week something more interesting may have joined it (at least I hope so!).

Thinking of Spending £100 On Hamilton 1/43s? Think Again…

Today’s entry is heavily Lewis Hamilton biased. We received Mattel’s 1:18 McLaren replica commemorating his first Grand Prix win in Montreal, complete with separate standing figure (DC2702MC).

Staying with Lewis, we now have a handful (and I mean just a handful) of 1:43 2006 test cars (DC26484) and 2007 showcars (DC27402P) available. We had a trade customer’s credit card decline, which has freed up a tiny number of each, and, unlike some unscrupulous retailers who are charging an extortionate £99.99 for each replica, are holding the original RRP of £24.99. As we have so few available these will be open to phone orders only, through our orderline on 0870 460 3456. You will have to be quick!

The Diecast World Seemed To Stop Today…….

I guess we’ve been a bit spoilt over the last few days with all of these new deliveries, as today we received………..absolutely nothing!

That’s not to say that we haven’t been flat out though, as we continue to work at a furious pace on our special Toy Fair catalogue, which should hit your doormats just before the Australian Grand Prix, so that you can read it during those annoying ad breaks!

Hamilton First Win Incoming!

I wish every week saw as many new deliveries as this one has! This time Mattel stepped up to the plate with a delivery of two new releases. The first is the 1:18 Ferrari Mondial (HW2987), the second is the 1:18 Olive Garden sponsored Ferrari 333SP from Sebring 1999 (HW0522).

Other news from Mattel is that we will see their 1:18 Lewis Hamilton ‘First Win Special’ from the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix (DC2702MC) next week.

A Storm of IXO

It was IXO’s turn today to bestow a new delivery upon us. The highlight was Colin McRae’s 1:43 1995 Subaru Impreza from the RAC Rally (RAC093), his greatest day in the world championship where he convincingly won the event to secure his only world title.

As I’m sure you can imagine, Colin McRae diecast is extremely popular at the moment, and we have just four examples of this replica remaining after fulfilling our pre-orders. It has been taken off of our website so is now open to phone orders only, to ensure that we do not oversell. It could well be completely sold out by the end of the week.

Also on the delivery was the latest release in the 1:43 Le Mans Winners Collection, the 2007 Audi R10 (LM2007). From the rally world, there were two 1:43 replicas for Marcus Gronholm; his 2006 Ford Focus WRC test car (RAM271), and 2007 Ford Focus WRC from the Monte Carlo Rally (RAM281).

Finally, there were six new releases in the 1:43 ‘non-Formula 1’ Ferrari collection. These are the #41 F40 from Le Mans 1995 (IXFR32), #11 575M from Monza 2004 (IXFR41), 1958 Testa Rossa (IXFR45), 1940 Auto Avio (IXFR54), #51 550 Maranello from Le Mans 2005 (IXFR66), and #50 550 Maranello from Le Mans 2006 (IXFR70).
