Calm Down Leigh, On With New SMTS And CMC If You Please!
After a gap of two years, I finally witnessed Kimi Raikkonen winning a Grand Prix again on Sunday! About flippin’ time too!
I’ll try not to let my obvious bias sway me on this, but I would imagine that Mattel is itching to do a Ferrari special, given that they normally release at least a couple every year and Ferrari hadn’t won anything so far this season to give them an excuse to announce one!
So, a Raikkonen 1:18 ‘Return To Victory’ special, anyone? Or one with a ‘Kimi – The King Of Spa’ pitboard, as was made up by the team? Or how about a 1:43 two car set entitled ‘First And Last’, with Raikkonen’s and Badoer’s Ferrari F60s on it? OK, maybe that last one is going a bit too far!
Let’s not forget Minichamps and Fisichella/Force India as well; surely we sill see something commemorating the team’s first pole and/or points and/or podium from Spa? Might that performance even be enough to see 1:18 replicas for Fisichella and Sutil? Time will tell!
Anyway, enough speculating, on with diecast releases that have actually happened!
Today we received three new 1:43 white metal models from SMTS. From Formula One, we have Jim Clark’s third place Lotus 21 from the 1961 French Grand Prix (SMTS134), and Jochen Rindt’s winning Lotus 49C from the 1970 Monaco Grand Prix (SMTS118).
And then, from Indycars, we have Graham Hill’s winning ‘Red Ball Special’ from the 1966 Indianapolis 500 (SMTS083).
Finally, from CMC, we have the second colourway of their Audi 225 Roadster, black/yellow (CMC075A).
