James Hunt’s 1976 Helmet Announced

It has been a busy day at DCL HQ, but the biggest news came courtesy of Bell Helmets. The brand announced that it will be producing a 1:2 scale replica of James Hunt’s 1976 Mclaren helmet (HEL011).

It is a faithful replica of James’s Bell Star 2 helmet. We have seen a sample, and it’s very cool. The alloy air tube has been accurately replicated, and for that final touch of authenticity there’s a Velcro strip that runs around the bottom edge of the helmet.

The second biggest piece of news was that Jorge Lorenzo has now signed Minichamps’ 1:12 replica of his 2010 Laguna Seca Moto GP winning Yamaha YZR-M1 (DCL2010LS) exclusively for us. It is a limited edition of just 180 pieces worldwide.

We also received new releases from three different brands. The best of them was Look Smart’s 1:43 2013 Lamborghini Veneno in metallic grey (LS409A).

TrueScale Miniatures sent us a small delivery of 1:43 replicas. Our favourite was the ‘Spirit of Le Mans’ Chevrolet Corvette raced by John Greenwood and Bernard Darniche in the 1976 Le Mans 24 Hours (TSM114329).  Other highlights included John Morton’s 1972 Trans-Am Championship winning Datsun 510 (TSM124382), and the 1962 Rolls-Royce Phantom V Sedanca De Ville (TSM124364).

Finally today, Norev released two very nice 1:18 replicas just in time for Le Mans: the #4 Renault Alpine A442 from the 1978 Le Mans 24 Hours that was driven by Guy Frequelin, Jean Ragnotti, Jose Dolhem and Jean-Pierre Jabouille (NV185146), and the Peugeot 905 that came second in the 1993 Le Mans 24 Hours in the hands of Yannick Dalmas, Thierry Boutsen, and Teo Fabi (NV184775).
