Spark Surprises By Announcing Mansell Lotus

posted in Endurance, Resin, Formula 1 |

We were just looking through one of the Spark release schedules that we regularly receive, when we came across a very exciting replica, which hadn’t yet been announced by the resin brand. Even more excitingly it was due in May.

The subject in question is a 1:43 replica of the Essex Lotus 81 that Nigel Mansell drove to third in the 1981 Belgian Grand Prix (SPK4287). This Lotus, as far as we know, has never been done before and, to make it even more desirable, it is a replica of the very car that Nigel Mansell took to his first ever podium finish in F1.

It’s unusual for a model that significant to just turn up out of the blue like that, but it was a nice surprise nonetheless.

Other new 1:43 announcements included the Matra MS5 that the late Jean-Pierre Beltoise drove to victory in the 1966 Monaco Formula Three race (SPK4307), and the BMW Z4 GT3 that Alex Zanardi raced in the Portuguese round of the 2014 Blancpain Sprint Series (SPKSP072). This car featured a special livery, which commemorated the Italian’s Para-cycling successes.
