minichamps are kind of getting left behind just now don’t you think?

  2. 2 On March 3rd, 2008, Lyria said:

I am still waiting for my 2007 Alonso 1:43 scale McLaren Mercedes, will they ever release it do you think? I’m not happy at still having to wait for it to arrive, it was meant to be a Christmas gift to me from my daughter, I didn’t realise it would be next Christmas!!!

  3. 3 On March 4th, 2008, Leigh 'Diecast' Hobden said:

It will certainly be released, but unfortunately it’s not unusual for replicas of F1 cars to miss the Christmas of the year that they raced in. We’re still waiting for about half of the 2007 grid, and have only seen one 2007 Moto GP bike! And Jenson Button fans are still waiting for the Hungary ‘First Win’ replicas from August 2006…..

  4. 4 On March 4th, 2008, Ryan said:

    Hi,

Thats a fair point, i actually ordered the Button 1st win car as soon as it was announced, any word on its arrival? Minichamps website quoted April 2008 last time i checked.

    Regards Ryan

  5. 5 On March 4th, 2008, Leigh 'Diecast' Hobden said:

There’s still no confirmed release date, or any guarantee that when April arrives Minichamps won’t put the date back by another couple of months on their site!

  6. 6 On March 6th, 2008, Lyria said:

Thanks for your reply Leigh, have to say I can’t be that fed up as I have dared to order another model from you. I know I am going to have to wait for it to arrive but I’m sure it will be worth it!! If they promise a model though then they should deliver it within a reasonable time or people like you get the flack for it which isn’t fair really.

hi what about the hamilton first win mp4/22 and 2006 test car mp4/21

  8. 8 On March 13th, 2008, Leigh 'Diecast' Hobden said:

Still no confirmed dates for those I’m afraid.

  9. 9 On March 19th, 2008, Andrew said:

Going by eBay offerings I’ve picked up two roadcar releases that happened this month which weren’t on the published list, namely two of the 1980s Opel Corsa (Vauxhall Nova) models, # 400045004 (SR) & 400045005 (the Steffi Graf special).

One wonders why Minichamps does these unpublished releases … that SR model went straight from “expected April 2008″ to “Sold Out” on their website overnight. Are Corsas that popular on pre-sales??

  10. 10 On March 20th, 2008, Leigh 'Diecast' Hobden said:

Corsas aren’t necessarily that popular, but if we pre-sell two of a Minichamps 1:43, we order two, and then discontinue it when it is released, and many other diecast retailers operate the same way. That’s why some models sell out so quickly and why pre-ordering is so important.

  11. 11 On April 24th, 2008, peter cavellini said:

Has the china syndrome infected Minichamps-theres nothing signifcant appeared in months!

  12. 12 On April 26th, 2008, Joe said:

    Hi,

Is there any news of the release date for the Alonso McLaren Mercedes 1:18 scale?
I pre-ordered it as soon as it was announced as I was amazed at the job Minichamps did on Kimi Raikkonen’s MP4-21 Race Car 1:18 scale.I know that Minichamps aren’t very accurate with timings, as I had to wait 6 or 7 months for Raikkonen’s car to arrive.

    Regards Joe.

  13. 13 On April 28th, 2008, Leigh 'Diecast' Hobden said:

I guess everyone has their own definition of ’significant’ - the Doohan Honda and Rossi Jerez figure were definitely significant for us, and Minichamps have released a fair few 2006/07 F1 cars recently, and we’re going to see Schumacher’s 1:43 B195 re-release this week too. But if you’re not interested in any of that, that list won’t sound as impressive!

  14. 14 On April 28th, 2008, Leigh 'Diecast' Hobden said:

We’ve not been given any date on the 1:18 Alonso McLaren, but we’re getting the 1:43 version this week so hopefully its bigger brother won’t be too far behind.

  15. 15 On April 29th, 2008, Andy said:

Just before the May release schedule goes up, here’s what I noticed about this April one, based on what Leigh has said in his blog over the past weeks:

    Total models originally announced: 23
    No of models added:
    2 x 1/18 F1 cars (early releases)
    3 x 1/43 F1 cars
    1 x 1/43 F1 car (re-release)
    2 x 1/43 DTM cars
    5 x 1/43 roadcars (all Bentleys!)
    Total: 13

So that works to being about 35% of the total releases for April that were added during the course of the month!

    Hi leigh

What’s happening with the La Storia collection?
There doesn’t appear to have been any releases this year!

  17. 17 On May 6th, 2008, Leigh 'Diecast' Hobden said:

It has been a bit quiet this year, but we are expecting #12 (Berger 1987) any day now.

  18. 18 On May 12th, 2008, Andy said:

For those like myself who have an avid interest in the road cars as well, that 1/43 Mercedes 230E 1990 model scheduled for release in early-May is interesting as being a retooled edition of a model previously released in the 1990s … something Minichamps/Paul Lang had previously said they were not keen to do.

If I’ve got my facts straight, last month’s 1/43 Audi V8 release was the first retooled roadcar to be sold and this would be the second. The first Audi V8 model was one of PMA’s first 1/43 roadcar models in the early 1990s and the quality was not up to their current standard - obviously oversized door mirrors, for one thing.

hey have you sold out all preorders of the vettel 1/18 bmw 2007

  24. 24 On June 27th, 2008, Leigh 'Diecast' Hobden said:

As I write this we have one left from our allocation, but it has sold so well over the last week or so that I have removed it from our website to ensure that we do not oversell and are not in danger of having to pay out Double Moneyback. It can still be ordered over the phone though, on our Orderline 0870 460 3456.

  25. 25 On July 9th, 2008, Deano said:

Any news on when the Jenson first win 1/43 is being released? Seems like minichamps are taking forever with this and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Lewis first win before it.

I have the Hamilton First Win 1:18 on pre order, its a shame minichamps cant be more on the ball. Ive just bought 2 new cabinets for new models but it seems as if it will take me a while to fill them, as I dont really want to buy mattel/hot wheels etc, the quality is just not there for me, and thats what diecast models are all about, surely??

  29. 29 On July 29th, 2008, Deano said:

    Hi Leigh….
Wondering if you knew anything about minichamps future releases… I put a couple of posts in the forum about it, but i’m wondering if minichamps are going to release a Rubens Barrichello 257 Grand Prix Honda…. Do you think they are going to produce it?
I’m also expecting them to release a Kubica first win and probably either a Hmilton Monaco or Silverstone…. You know when they these are likely to be announced (if they are going to be)
    Cheers

  30. 30 On July 30th, 2008, Leigh 'Diecast' Hobden said:

Minichamps haven’t announced any 2008 F1 specials yet; I’m sure there will be a Kubica First Win and a Hamilton Special from one of his wins, but it’s normally later in the season before they announce them.

Also can you explain why Leigh’s Diary never mentioned the arrival of Neo’s 1/43 Jaguar Mk VIII.It is an excellent model which I received a few weeks ago.

Minichamps have not confirmed a release date to us yet for the 1:18 State Limousine. And I think you’ll find that I mentioned the new NEO subjects, including the Jaguar Mk.VIII, in my diary entry on 16th July!

  36. 36 On August 15th, 2008, Leigh 'Diecast' Hobden said:

  43. 43 On September 9th, 2008, Stephen Smyth said:

    Hi Leigh

I’m a bit confused about the quality issues concerning Mattel’s Ferari F1 cars of recent. I have both the F2007 and the new F2008 car that i bought about a week ago on ebay, both with Kimi Raikkonen as the driver.

The 2007 model looks a rushed item that hasn’t been done very well, some of the decals look loose and even broken, especially the case in the 1:43 version, but the new F2008 has been done brilliantly, the metallic red paint job and aero have been done very well, while the helmet has been improved, the car even has rubber tyres!

I was wondering how they could go from making average Ferrari F1 models, then make the 2007 cars look like a total joke, then make a fantastic 2008 car the next? Would they get pulled up for poor quality?

    Regards

    Stephen

go to say the lewis hamilton first win is quite cr@p, i still have the kimi first win which is excellent, surely with all the lewis hype they could have made a decent one as i’m sure it would have sold.

Minichamps have produced an XJS Jaguar Cabriolet in 1.43 scale and are shortly to produce a red variant but in truth the Jaguar cabriolet for real had a tee bar across the centre section of the driver and passenger seats with detachable roof panels either side with no rear seats but a luggage shelf instead. It seems to me a fundemental mistake that on the continent a cabriolet is in fact a convertible. If you will pardon the pun they are 2 different animals in real life. I would very much like Minichamps to get there act together and produce a 1.43 model of the very rare cabriolet which in fact was put into production by JAGUAR before they built the convertible which Minichamps are calling the cabriolet.

    Dear Leigh,

    Greetings from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
I just stumbled your very informative website, indeed and glad to note the future Minichamps releases.
Am more of a 1/18 diecast cars and trucks collector and just wondering what is the next 1/18 scale Minichamps truck scheduled to be produced/ released for next year 2009, sir. Any idea? Am anxious to know, Leigh! Just purchased both the 1/18th’s Minichamps Shell and the brown tan Rungenwagens Mercedes Benzes. Looking for these 1/18th scale trucks, especially, Mercedes trucks, Any themes, will do. Just purchased the Schuco truck, as well. Your advise please.

Ha ! Reading all prior posts here, I see it is par for the course for makers to announce, then delay, retail-sales of their product. MOST peculiar-way of commerce I’ve yet seen.

I’m wondering what decade the MInichamps GT40Mk.II series will debut in, along with the Spark Bizzarrini 5300 street spyder, and the excellent Kyosho 1/64 scale LeMans ‘66 first three cars across the line, all Ford Mk.II’s.

    Hello Leigh,

I’ve been very patiently waiting (over 5 years actually) for Minichamp to release the McLaren MP4-98T Two-seater F1 model. At the point of giving up, I was woken from my 5 year hibernation last year with the arrival of the 1/43rd version which was all rather nice, apart from it being changed at the last minute to the Mika/Erja snow version. My question is this: How long may I possibly have to wait for the 1/18th version and are Minichamp likely to alter the livery again? I was hoping that the version they put into production was the Siverstone run Brundle/Walker car with the ‘West’ decals. I assume this is not possible due to tobacco regulations?
Anyway, any additional information you can find will be greatly welcome. I shall get comfy again and return to my long sleep!

    Many thanks…

    Regards, Mick.

I’m assuming that the 1:18 version will also be of Mr. and Mrs. Hakkinen! As there was no sign of it at Nuremberg, I do fear that we’re not going to see it at any time soon. I’m certain that it won’t have West branding on it, as you say because of the tobacco regulations.

Like many others i have a list of models ive been waiting for,2 of which are from Minichamps.Im waitng for the 1/43 mk1 Golf GTI and the 1/18 Mclaren f1.
Looking at your catalogues and the minichamps one they seem to be doing all the other models on that page except the one i want(The golf)Which is an extremely popular car and has a big following.Have you seen or have any info on when it might arrive?
Minichamps seems to spend way more time on there f1,rally cars than they do on their road vehicles.Any info appreciated.

Unfortunately Minichamps hasn’t given us any info on timings for these two replicas. We do sell a lot more of their F1 cars than their road cars, so they do concentrate on them as it means they can get more income from what they have out on their production line.

    Hi Leigh,

Are you going to be getting in any 1:43 Bugatti Veyrons? Or have you had them in before and sold out?
The AutoArt website seems to say they are only available to ship in America and Canada

We do have more on order from AUTOart (our first delivery sold out quite quickly), but seeing that it took nine months to get restocks through of the 1:18 versions, I’m not going to hold my breath as to when we are going to see the 1:43s again!

Currently watching Rossi showing the ‘babies’ how to race at Misano, and still waiting for BSA Goldstar after about 18 months (ordered when advertised as scheduled delivery July 2008).

There appears to be only 2 of us waiting for the Goldie, so is this why they are not making it?

  70. 70 On September 8th, 2009, Leigh 'Diecast' Hobden said:

Wow, three questions at once! Considering we didn’t even see a sample of Schwantz’s 1993 Suzuki at Nuremberg this year, I’m sure we won’t see that released this year. It has to be said that lead times of three years or more are pretty average when it comes to Minichamps’ 1:12 classic bikes and race bikes! There’s no news on the Volvo either, but we did see a sample of the BSA Goldstar at Nuremberg this year, so fingers crossed we will see that one before Christmas.

  71. 71 On September 8th, 2009, Julia Harlow said:

Thanks Leigh - unfortunately the older us classic bikers get means we can’t cross our fingers for long! Keep hoping though.

Just a comment re. the Oct/Nov 2009 schedule, the “Ford Escort ITC” could use a space: “Ford Escort I TC” (= Mk.1 Twin Cam).

Interesting how quickly the second colours of popular models are being released now - like the Mini 850, now in green … it seems as if Minichamps are setting their edition volumes too low on some first-colour models, forcing them to bring out the second colour within months in order to keep cashing in. Great news for ebay sellers, I suppose

Though do wonder why this model is being
    produced with BLACK Exhaust pipe?

I can never recall having seen any original Bike with out the usual Chrome Exhaust, well my one was a 1956 model and that was Chrome, as were all of my Mates, who also were the proud owners of this fantastic motorcycle!

Last week at long last I received my MiniChamps Nicky Hayden Repsol Honda hooray! I’ve only been waiting just over 2 years so how long I will have to wait for my Schwantz, Rainey and Bayliss models is any bodys guess? It cracks me up Valentino Rossi only has to get his “haircut or change the stickers” on his bike and hey presto there’s an instant new model released.

Leigh, I purchased the 1/18 McLaren MP4-98T Two-seater F1 model and am happy with it … apart from the fact that its livery is not accurate because of so-called tobacco regulations. Could you - either here or in some future video blog - explain why adult collectors have to put up with this nonsense? I have never smoked at any time in my 59 years on this planet so I have no allegiance to tobacco companies and perfectly happy that they have been squeezed out of F1. But, bloody hell, we are talking about historical accuracy here. It is unbelievable to me that an adult collector can’t buy an historically accurate model just because a thousand years ago it used to carry tobacco branding! I really think from a GPL point of view, where models are advertised as being representative of a certain historical event, there ought to be a clear warning that the livery is NOT accurate (if there was formerly tobacco branding) and you guys should be enlisting some MPs to lobby the UK and EU parliaments to get some kinf of clear exemption for collector models.

Hopefully the BSA Gold Star will appear on Minichamps’ next release schedule which will take us up to the end of the year - if it isn’t on there though, then unfortunately we will have to wait until 2010.

We haven’t been given a revised delivery date for the 2008 Rossi Yamaha yet - this is another one that we’re very keen to see before Christmas!

If I had £1 every time someone asked me about cigarette branding and diecast models, I would be a very rich man! I’ve been into F1 since I was 9 and never been tempted to buy a packet of Marlboros, Rothmans or Wests, but unfortunately the situation regarding cigarette branding on replicas has been the same for some time now and I can’t see it changing.

We’ve still got two weeks of new releases left on the current schedule, so I think the earliest we will see the November/December schedule will be the end of next week.

I’ve heard absolutely nothing regarding the McLaren showcars; given that this year all the showcars are pretty much the same shape, I’m surprised we haven’t seen them released already.

    Dear Leigh,
I was wanting to know if minichamps are going to release a Mark Webber first win special, considering they’ve done this for a lot of other drivers. Being Australian its been a long time since an Aussie won and would be very dissapointed if they didn’t!
    Best regards,
    Simon.

Minichamps haven’t announced anything so far, so I wonder if they will replicate this or think it is ‘not worth it’ as it means making a new Red Bull tooling with the wider nose. I hope they make it, as I was at that race and would want one for myself!

A kind of related question - has ANY manufacturer, Minichamps or otherwise, ever made a 1:18 scale of Nelson Piquet’s 1987 World Championship winning Williams Honda FW11, also driven by Patrese & Mansell? Can’t understand why a car of this stature appears to be TOTALLY unrepresented and unavailable. No-one ever done it?

  88. 88 On November 19th, 2009, Leigh 'Diecast' Hobden said:

I don’t believe anyone has ever replicated the 1987 Williams FW11 in 1:18. I’m hoping Minichamps will decide to after seeing how popular their 1:43 versions were.

Unfortunately Minichamps hasn’t given us a release date yet - if it’s not released until after the 2010 season has started then it will also take longer to pin Vettel down to do the signing as well! I think we’re looking at months rather than weeks before we can supply the signed version.

    Hi Leigh,

Im wondering if you would be able to find out if Minichamps will make a model of Mark Webber’s 1st WIN!

I would love to have a model of that! They did it for Kubica, Hamilton, Button and others so i see it only fair to make one for us Aussie’s! They make test drive cars for some drivers as well and a win is a very important thing.

Anyway could you let me know thanks?

The only confirmed date is the 1:18 1984 Portuguese GP Toleman, which we will see in a couple of weeks. The 1:18 1983 British F3 Ralt was on show at Nuremberg, so hopefully that means we will see that released soon as well.
