   I am still waiting for my 2007 Alonso 1:43 scale McLaren Mercedes, will they ever release it do you think? I’m not happy at still having to wait for it to arrive, it was meant to be a Christmas gift to me from my daughter, I didn’t realise it would be next Christmas!!!

   It will certainly be released, but unfortunately it’s not unusual for replicas of F1 cars to miss the Christmas of the year that they raced in. We’re still waiting for about half of the 2007 grid, and have only seen one 2007 Moto GP bike! And Jenson Button fans are still waiting for the Hungary ‘First Win’ replicas from August 2006…..

   Thats a fair point, i actually ordered the Button 1st win car as soon as it was announced, any word on its arrival? Minichamps website quoted April 2008 last time i checked.

I know I am going to have to wait for it to arrive but I’m sure it will be worth it!! If they promise a model though then they should deliver it within a reasonable time or people like you get the flack for it which isn’t fair really.

   Going by eBay offerings I’ve picked up two roadcar releases that happened this month which weren’t on the published list, namely two of the 1980s Opel Corsa (Vauxhall Nova) models, # 400045004 (SR) & 400045005 (the Steffi Graf special).

   One wonders why Minichamps does these unpublished releases … that SR model went straight from “expected April 2008″ to “Sold Out” on their website overnight. Are Corsas that popular on pre-sales??

    Corsas aren’t necessarily that popular, but if we pre-sell two of a Minichamps 1:43, we order two, and then discontinue it when it is released, and many other diecast retailers operate the same way. That’s why some models sell out so quickly and why pre-ordering is so important.

    Is there any news of the release date for the Alonso McLaren Mercedes 1:18 scale?
    I pre-ordered it as soon as it was announced as I was amazed at the job Minichamps did on Kimi Raikkonen’s MP4-21 Race Car 1:18 scale.I know that Minichamps aren’t very accurate with timings, as I had to wait 6 or 7 months for Raikkonen’s car to arrive.

    I guess everyone has their own definition of ’significant’ - the Doohan Honda and Rossi Jerez figure were definitely significant for us, and Minichamps have released a fair few 2006/07 F1 cars recently, and we’re going to see Schumacher’s 1:43 B195 re-release this week too. But if you’re not interested in any of that, that list won’t sound as impressive!

    Just before the May release schedule goes up, here’s what I noticed about this April one, based on what Leigh has said in his blog over the past weeks:

    Total models originally announced: 23
    No of models added:
    2 x 1/18 F1 cars (early releases)
    3 x 1/43 F1 cars
    1 x 1/43 F1 car (re-release)
    2 x 1/43 DTM cars
    5 x 1/43 roadcars (all Bentleys!)
    Total: 13

    So that works to being about 35% of the total releases for April that were added during the course of the month!

    For those like myself who have an avid interest in the road cars as well, that 1/43 Mercedes 230E 1990 model scheduled for release in early-May is interesting as being a retooled edition of a model previously released in the 1990s … something Minichamps/Paul Lang had previously said they were not keen to do.

    If I’ve got my facts straight, last month’s 1/43 Audi V8 release was the first retooled roadcar to be sold and this would be the second. The first Audi V8 model was one of PMA’s first 1/43 roadcar models in the early 1990s and the quality was not up to their current standard - obviously oversized door mirrors, for one thing.

    As I write this we have one left from our allocation, but it has sold so well over the last week or so that I have removed it from our website to ensure that we do not oversell and are not in danger of having to pay out Double Moneyback.     I have the Hamilton First Win 1:18 on pre order, its a shame minichamps cant be more on the ball. Ive just bought 2 new cabinets for new models but it seems as if it will take me a while to fill them, as I dont really want to buy mattel/hot wheels etc, the quality is just not there for me, and thats what diecast models are all about, surely??

    I’m also expecting them to release a Kubica first win and probably either a Hmilton Monaco or Silverstone…. You know when they these are likely to be announced (if they are going to be)

    Minichamps haven’t announced any 2008 F1 specials yet; I’m sure there will be a Kubica First Win and a Hamilton Special from one of his wins, but it’s normally later in the season before they announce them.

    Also can you explain why Leigh’s Diary never mentioned the arrival of Neo’s 1/43 Jaguar Mk VIII.It is an excellent model which I received a few weeks ago.

    Minichamps have not confirmed a release date to us yet for the 1:18 State Limousine. And I think you’ll find that I mentioned the new NEO subjects, including the Jaguar Mk.VIII, in my diary entry on 16th July!
